THE HOP @ THE END CLUB 1999 - DJ SEMTEX & DJ KOFI
In 1996 if you lived in London there were no hip hop clubs going on. DJ 279 had stoped doing his night "Flava of the Month" which was legendary, and Westwood was doing the temple but nothing regular.
The Hop took place once a month at the End club in London's West end, and it was THE spot if you wanted to hear hip hop. The idea of the club night was just to play good hip hop whether it be old or new, and the sound system in there was one of the best in Europe at that time. Myself MK,alongside Diablo, and Shortee blitz tore it down every month for nearly 4 years, and it was the sickest night.
This was a real legendary night, and was also my first residency. It was basically where i learnt alot. In 1999 i had to go to New York to do shows with Roots Manuva, so i called in my homeboy Semtex to do damage whilst i was away and the spot got blown.

I hope that you will understand that the only reason i am making this public, is because i believe in the power of the people!!
And i believe in collective thought.If we all challenge our energy towards something we can make it happen.
WE ARE THAT STRONG!!!
There is no easy way of sharing this with you...
so i'll just go ahead and do it.
Vadim has been diagnosed with Cancer!!!(If you would like to know more about it, please google it. As i do not want to delve into it here. The name is: Ocular Melanoma / choroidal melanoma and it is a very rare type of cancer).This has obviously been a shock for all of us.
I hope everyday that i'll wake up and it's all been a bad dream...
I can't help but feel anger and frustration, as it's so hard
to accept that this has happened to such a good man!!!
Not only someone so extremely talented!!!But someone so healthy, so young, so fit?Someone so kind, so loving, so funny?
A friend of mine said to me the other day,
''Maybe this type of thing happens to the real good people, just
because they are the ones who are strong enough to survive through something like this??''Yeah maybe?
I still don't think it's fair.But whatever the reason may be.
I know one thing....
Vadim is a fighter!!
He always pushes himself to the limit...
And i will be there pushing for him when he can not.ALL my energy and presence is now channeled in Vadim's direction to help him get better!!He is by far one of the most incredible and inspiring people i know.And i am truly blessed to have met him!!!!
And so is everyone who has ever been touched by his music and his presence!!!!!So many times has he had my back and lifted me up when i was down!And i wish now that we can all do the same for him!
All i am asking from you, is to create a proactive boomerang
....WORLD WIDE and please pray for him! Help him heal!!
Send him all your energy and love, and think intensely about him
surviving, recovering and coming back stronger!!!
Musically he has many more shows to rock, many more albums to finnish.And so many more adventures to go on...the world needs him!!
Fuck..... i need him!!!
Please take your time out to light him a candle and think
about him in the most positive colorful light....starting NOW!!!
Shower him wit LOVE!!!! Telepathically, spiritually, verbally...in which ever way!!!
Cause we have the power to do so!!For the past few weeks i been trying my absolute hardest to get him the best
treatment available. And making sure he is strong, spiritually, mentally and physically for whatever is ahead. I remain positive!!! And try to instill that positivity in him....daily!!!But right now there is not much more i can do. It is time to give him over to the doctors.
(Physically, but not spiritually!!)
He is in hospital now. And will have an operation tomorrow, (friday 26th of September 8am UK time) , i can not tell
you exactly how long he will have to stay in hospital. But i hope not for too long.
so....Friends & Family...
Know this...we are powerful, our thoughts are powerful,
so if we challenge our energy towards him when he is going
through this chapter in his life.
I know that our collective positive energy and light will help him through this!
...i know this might not have been the most eloquent letter
i've written...but i was not entirely sure how to convey these news to
you, so yeah i just wrote it the best i could considering the situation.

Wow, 1st time i heard this was from Premier on a mix masters weekend mix.Classic later 90's HEAT!!!
Sauce money was a dope MC who could defiantly hold his own against Jay Z.
By 97 Sauce had a good amount of hype building up, but his album dropped way too late and never really got his dues. Theres alonger version of this track but i prefer the 2 min version and that's what you got right here. Recently sauce Money has made a lil come back and still sounds dope....
Gotta find a way to drop this in the mix on the radio...

So last night Londons sickest club night returned to do damage @ Plastic People in East London.
Damn what a wicked night...We had a week to promote this due to getting the flyer mad late, and the night was RAM.
As a DJ its so good to be able to play exactly what you want in a club, and for the people to love it as much as you do.

THE BIRTH PLACE OF HIP HOP TO BE SOLD...
City officials in New York ruled that the sale of the building commonly referred to as the birthplace of Hip Hop can go forward.
The landlord of 1520 Sedgwick is expected to remove the building from the city’s Mitchell Lama moderate housing program by paying off the current mortgage, which is $5 million. The move will make room for an investment group headed by real estate developer Mark Karasick to buy the property, according to a New York Times blog.
Opponents of the buyout pulled together a $10 million counter offer and went to court in an attempt to block the sale of the building to Karasick. The state Supreme Court initially sided with the opposition group, issuing a temporary restraining order, before ruling against the group, allowing the initial sale to go forward the report reads.
“They were unsuccessful and we’re proceeding to close,” said Steven Frankel, an attorney for 1520 Sedgwick Associates.
If the sale goes through, more than 100 families will be affected.

BUSTA DETAINED AT LONDON CITY AIRPORT
I was supposed to be hooking up with Busta today at 6pm, to interview him just before my radio show today then i got a text from my producer saying it was a no show, and he was detained at the airport.
I really cant belive this.....Rhymes is due to play at Orange RockCorps, a concert to be attended by a full house of 5,000 music fans at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Each fan has obtained their ticket by spending four hours volunteering in community projects.
US soul star John Legend is also due to appear, as are rock bands Feeder, The Automatic and Guillemots.
Rhymes was allowed into the UK to launch the event on 17 August, which saw him helping to pick up litter in London to promote the event.
He also performed at the Midnight Madness basketball event in the city.
Stephen Greene, the co-founder of RockCorps, said he was "shocked at this sequence of events and this treatment of Busta".
So they let him into the country last month,but this month they were like....NAh........
When was the last time you heard a rock act being detained in the UK????????????????????????????????
SOME INTERESTING FACTS:
He has a valid work permit for Friday’s performance.
He has been into the country twice already this year to perform commercial gigs two commercial gigs including Nike Midnight Madness at Wembley arena.
Busta has already been let into the UK this year for Orange RockCorps work, when he completed charity work for Sports Action Zone in Lambeth, which was aired on T4.
5,000 fans who gave their time to charitable causes are expecting to see him play tomorrow night.
20,000 hours of voluntary work have been completed by young volunteers in the UK in order to see Busta Rhymes perform.
Busta Rhymes has never served any time in prison, and has completed community service for his convictions.

So for our further instalment of slept on hip hop we take it back to 89 or was it 1990, cant remember. If this record ever actually came out it defiantly would of been one of the classic hip hop posse cuts of all time.
Assassination squad was a Posse cut record from the Flavor unit featuring production from Mark the 45 King. At this time Mark was killing it on the beats and was a close second to the god Marley Marl. Westwood used to play this on his radio show on Capital radio, and i taped this off the radio from back then. Featuring Queen Latifah (when she was was on fire), Chill rob G, La kim Shabazz, Markey fresh etc...truly dope..
Now this is where it gets confusing.......17 years later my homeboy Stretch Armstrong posted this record on his blog and said that he got it off big Tim, but the version he posted was different and not as good as the one that Westwood used to play... So they done 2 versions for a song that never came out???? Shout me if you know anymore,enjoy and DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
BBC REHEARSALES
So today i spent all day at the BBC in Wood lane, rehearsing for the Jools Holland show with Roots manuva. Jools Hollands show is legendary and he always gets the best artists from every genre of music. This was our second time on the show....the shows gonna be recorded tomorrow,and aired on Friday on BBC 2 at 10.30 i think...
Before the BBC i made a quick stop over at Nikes new offices to see grab some garms and kicks..... The new offices look dope and i was again in Trainer heaven. Big shout out to Nana and the rest of the crew for the love.
then it was off to the beeb...
