DJ MK AT THE FLICKS..... NOTORIOUS!!!!!

So after leaving the radio station at 1am last night, i was back there bright and early at 10am. The reason for me getting out of my bed so early was to go to a special screening of the new Biggie film "Notorious" which is released over her Feb 13Th. I walked over to 20Th Century Fox in Soho square, and went in. What was really funny, was when i signed in i saw that there was 2 screenings. 1 for Notorious and 1 for the new tom Cruise film valkyrie. Everyone from Radio1 signed in to see Tom Cruise, whilst everyone from Kiss signed in to see Notorious....Nuff said.

My expectations for this film were low i aint gonna lie....Hip hop and Hollywood have never mixed well. From Beat street and Breakdance to Bull worth, Hollywood's representation of Hip hop and the culture has always been pretty lame, so i thought "Notorious" might be yet another example of this......

But guess what....

I was wrong...... From the beginning to the end, this film was good. Gravy who was cast as Biggie was spot on. From his mannerisms, to his voice, he got everything right. I was worried that whoever was cast as Biggie, would be a dude doing a impression of Big rather then a actor portraying him. Angela basset who played Biggies mum was amazing, and in general the casting was good. The only thing that got me a lil is that theres 2 scenes where Big is performing live, and i swear if you look carefully DJ Enuff is spinning the tracks off a red and white serato vinyl??? Serato wasn't even invented then, but its all good.

It was very sereal watching this film. I was 16 when "Party and Bullshit" came out and grew up on Biggie. In April 1995 i saw him live at his only proper solo London show at the Hammersmith Palais. I never thought that 14 years later id be sitting in a cinema watching the story of my favorite MC who ever lived....

So Notorious is out over here Feb 13Th, or maybe your local DVD man might get it sooner....Either way make sure you see this!!!
