ROOTS MANUVA & DJ MK - AUSTRAIA - JUNE 2011
So weekend just gone, myself and Roots, were out in the country of Austria for a couple of show's. We ve been going to Austria rocking shows out there since the late 90's and always have fun. Here's some photos of our escapades. Also from the 2nd week in July you can check me out on Austria's National radio station FM4, alongside my homeboy DJ Beware. I'll be doing a guest mix every week for the 8 weeks of the summer, so look out for that.
DJ MK & BEATS BY DRE HEADPHONES
I got hooked up with some Beats By Dre headphones last week, and i do have to say they're the best Headphones out on the Market right about now. Being a DJ who spins all over the world, i've probably tried most headphones that are out on the market. What's good about the Beats By Dre headphones are.....
1 - They fit PERFECTLY and are very comfortable. The last thing you need when you re spining is having tight uncomfortable headphones round your ears, making them sweat, and giving you a headache.
2 - They are loud and the clarity and detail on them musicaly is incredible. You can really hear the music the way it was suposed to be made, which is essential!
3 - You can take apart the lead for the headphone and they are also replaceable which is very handy.
4 - The packaging is perfect and actually useful.
5- Beats By Dre are the only company that are putting out quality headphones who actually work alongside the DJ'S and value there opinion.
So next time you see me in a club,or doing my radio show on Kiss100, or doing the Funhouse, or rocking a show with Roots Manuva or Dizzee Rascal, This is what i'll be using!!

Apathy - Check To Check (Video)

NEW ROOTS MANUVA ALBUM!
Exciting news here at Manuva Towers - as you may have already heard, on September 26th (in the UK and Europe, October 11th in the USA) Roots Manuva will release a brand new studio album, '4everevolution,' via Big Dada/Banana Klan. The album is just a few seconds under an hour long, consists of seventeen tracks and covers every style from wonky reggae through pop-funk, street spitting, straight up hip hop, sung ballads and epic death-disco. We think it's his very best work since 'Run Come Save Me.' We're wondering (whisper it) whether it might be his best album... (sshh) ever.

The album mainly revolves around Roots' own production and voice, with contributions from Banana Klan stalwarts including Ricky Ranking and Daddy Kope. In addition, on three tracks Mr Manuva introduces talented young singer Rokhsan. Other guests include Skin and Cass Lewis from Skunk Anansie. Production, meanwhile, comes from as far afield as Australia, Rodney Smith's travels allowing him to meet beatmakers and producers all over the world.
The first taste from this epic is already out and about in the form of "Watch Me Dance". A dirty little funk ditty with its origins in Ricky Ranking's earliest live performances with the Manuva band, Rodney demoed the track 18 months or so ago and then gave the parts to Toddla T to see what he could do with them. They both agreed that the results sounded more like a Toddla T track than a Roots Manuva track, so that version gave Toddla's new album its name, but Rodney's own version is also out and about and picking up plays....

DJ MK - Nike-Live-For-The-Game-Selfridges
So last night i was asked to DJ at the Nike Live For The Game launch which took place in Selfridges in Central London. Nike ALWAYS know how to do good parties, which can't be said for all brands out there. Guest of honour that night was the Legend John McEnroe, who also did a Q&A with George Lamb.
I was spining for 3 hours playing everything from Rock, Hip Hop, 80's R&B, 80's Pop, Electro, which i love, and had a really good time. Shout to my man Pos from De La Soul who gave me a pound whilst spining getting down to the good music, and big up SJ and Nana!

Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest Trailer
So here is the trailer for the Michael Rapaport documentary on A Tribe Called Quest. If you follow this blog, we first talked about this story nearly 2 years ago when i hooked up with Phife for Funhouse, where he talked about this project.
Then we saw Q- Tip dissing this project on his Twitter account. Recently we saw Tip being interviewed by Sway on MTV, and he disclosed a story about a certin email which accidentally got sent to him via the producers of this film, which basically said they were gonna rip him off. What ever the real story is, i think we are all glad that this film has been made, and boy it looks GOOD.
