DJ MK & ROOTS MANUVA - 1ST EVER SHOW, WE EVER DID.THE END CLUB 1997
I didnt even know i had a copy of this tape untill yesterday when i was goin through the MK archieves. Ok so lets take it back to 97. I was 21 and Mr Manuva was 23. I was still working in Deal Real the record shop, hustling mixtapes, and starting to make a name in the clubs. Rodney still hadnt been signed and i think still only had one released record as Roots Manuva and that was "Next type of motion" which came out 2 years before in 1995.
So in 1997 we did our first show together. It was at a night called The Hop @ The End club which me and Shortee Blitz and Diablo were residents and was THE place to go to in london once a month. The End club has no stage so Roots Manuva was just standing by the decks MCing from there.
Its funny listening to this tape hearing Rodney explain to the crowd who he was "If you dont know who iam...my name is Roots Manuva, otherwise hilton Smyth and if your friendly you can call me GEEZA....Alright..... Little did we know, a year later we would be touring europe and be the 1st Hip hop artists from over here to do full 35 date tours of America.
As we had no instrumentals of our own to spit over we had to use other peoples. So when you listen to this tape, its basicly Rodney spitting over the instrumentals of what was hot then KILLIN IT, on the mic...Then the club night continued and im on the decks for the next 20 minutes, then shortee comes on the decks when Crookyln is played...I may be wrong, but im pretty sure thats how it went down...My homeboy Diablo has pics from this night as well, so i'll try and get them off him
This is a pretty sick Tape just for the music alone... DOWNLOAD AND ENJOY....

I didnt know anything about this till now... Kane is one of my favorite MC'S ever!!! Cant wait to see this..
The Cool Kids - Pennies (video)
Sick new single and video from The Cool kids. Last year was a big year for them, rocking shows all over the world from London to Australia. There work ethic is crazy, and if they can keep it up expect huge things from them this year. The beat on this record is sick, i love it. I think i played this 1st on my radio show back in June, but as its the next single, I'll get back on it.
The Cool Kids are a good example of hard work does pay off. They built up there own buzz which enabled them to tour and build a huge worldwide fan bass with out even having a proper released record out. With the combination of them being fresh and original whilst having there own sound, they cant loose, as long as they stay focused (which im sure they will)
I remember they were on my radio show on a Thursday some time last year and then a week later i bumped into them boarding a plane to Amsterdam. Within that 7 days of me not seeing them they had already been to Australia and did 4 shows!!!!!! Now that's hard work. Check the video for the new single and let me know if you like it

SAFFIR V CASUAL 1995
I saw a interview the other day with Bay area MC Saffir. Saffir was a dope MC, and in his interview he talks about his famous battle with Casual which took place on the wake up show with Sway and tech back in 1995. I totally forgot that i got a tape of the wholle battle, so i dug it out and gave it a listen. I aint heard this for about 10 years!!! This battle is actually pretty sick, and has some funny moments....."i aint scared to fight"
The battle goes on for about 35 minutes and hears a little taster...If you want the full battle let me know and i'll post it!!!!

DJ MK AT THE FLICKS..... NOTORIOUS!!!!!
So after leaving the radio station at 1am last night, i was back there bright and early at 10am. The reason for me getting out of my bed so early was to go to a special screening of the new Biggie film "Notorious" which is released over her Feb 13Th. I walked over to 20Th Century Fox in Soho square, and went in. What was really funny, was when i signed in i saw that there was 2 screenings. 1 for Notorious and 1 for the new tom Cruise film valkyrie. Everyone from Radio1 signed in to see Tom Cruise, whilst everyone from Kiss signed in to see Notorious....Nuff said.
My expectations for this film were low i aint gonna lie....Hip hop and Hollywood have never mixed well. From Beat street and Breakdance to Bull worth, Hollywood's representation of Hip hop and the culture has always been pretty lame, so i thought "Notorious" might be yet another example of this......
But guess what....
I was wrong...... From the beginning to the end, this film was good. Gravy who was cast as Biggie was spot on. From his mannerisms, to his voice, he got everything right. I was worried that whoever was cast as Biggie, would be a dude doing a impression of Big rather then a actor portraying him. Angela basset who played Biggies mum was amazing, and in general the casting was good. The only thing that got me a lil is that theres 2 scenes where Big is performing live, and i swear if you look carefully DJ Enuff is spinning the tracks off a red and white serato vinyl??? Serato wasn't even invented then, but its all good.
It was very sereal watching this film. I was 16 when "Party and Bullshit" came out and grew up on Biggie. In April 1995 i saw him live at his only proper solo London show at the Hammersmith Palais. I never thought that 14 years later id be sitting in a cinema watching the story of my favorite MC who ever lived....
So Notorious is out over here Feb 13Th, or maybe your local DVD man might get it sooner....Either way make sure you see this!!!

TONY HART R.I.P
If you grew up watching kids TV in the 80's as i did, then you watched this man. Tony Hart was a don, and the man who introduced us to Morph....R.I.P.
Good old Tony Hart. He was one of those BBC TV presenters who looked like a kindly old uncle, with his shock of white hair and his calm voice and mild mannered approach to teaching kids the basics of art. Watching him at work was always a pleasure, and like fellow artist Rolf Harris, he could create a stunning picture from a few simple lines with a thick black marker pen.
Every episode of Take Hart would teach you several new interesting ways of making a piece of art. Some were a bit messy or would be difficult to achieve on the often larger scale that Mr. Hart would work to. For example, painting a picture using paint rollers on a massive sheet of paper using emulsion paint was not the kind of thing your Mum and Dad would readily let you have a go at.
There were plenty of other things you could have a go at though, from the basics of drawing a simple cartoon character through to making three dimensional shapes out of drinking straws and cotton. These are the kind of things Tony taught you and made you want to have a go yourself.
There was also the chance for the viewers artwork to shine in the Gallery, a section of the show where several childrens pictures would be shown accompanied by a piece of soothing music. Each childs name and age would be displayed, with Tony giving the odd comment about how he liked the use of cotton wool to make clouds, or glued on sand to create a rough texture. At the end of this segment Tony would give the address to send your pictures to, stating that although they couldn’t be returned (a nice way of saying they would be binned I presume) there was a prize for any that were shown.
Last, but not least, Take Hart also introduced us to Morph, the brown plasticene man who live in a little wooden box on Tony’s desk. Morph was stop frame animated by Aardman Animations, better known for Wallace and Gromit.

ARTWORK FOR THE NEW BUSTA ALBUM "BACK ON MY B.S."
Brand new Busta album coming out next month. No other MC in history has killed it SO many times, on tracks and remixes. Busta is in top form and looks set to SMASH IT...Cant wait to hear it all??? Well for a little preview make sure you lock in to my radio show tomorrow night HERE where i'll be playing some of the best tracks off this album.
KIDBASS FEATURING SINCERE - 'GOODGIRLS LOVE RUDEBOYS'
Sincere is defiantly one MC from London to watch out for in 2009. I first heard of Sincere back in 2001/2 thru the management off Itch Fm, the legendary 24-7 Pirate radio station, where i did a radio show alongside my partner in crime A-cyde. I cant remember the white label i got, but it could of been "If you were wise" when he was still known as Sincere AKA lil D. I remember when i played it on Itch Fm back in 2002 i must have had half of North London belling up the studio demanding reload after reload.
So fast forward to 2009 and Sincere is still killing it with the Hip hop, but he is also involved with a project called Kidbass. KidBass is led by Sincere, 24 year old North London rapper.
KidBass is made-up of a collective of young producers; Justice Foolsworth, Godson and Short Circuit, whose musical backgrounds range from House to Hip Hop.
Their first single is 'Goodgirls Love Rudeboys' which samples the Moloko anthem 'The Time Is Now'.
'Goodgirls Love Rudeboys' looks set to be the catchphrase for the New
Year, and Kidbass Featuring Sincere the freshest sound to emerge in
2009. Have a look at the behind the scenes video below, and shout out to Irene who did the styling in the vid.
WHAT DO U THINK??
U FEELING IT??? LET ME KNOW..

Asher Roth Subdued Bomb Scare @ LAX
Asher Roth was involved in a lil rumble on a recent flight. Here's what went down.BTW Is anybody feeling the "i love college" joint?????
According to his publicist, none other than Asher Roth was involved in detaining the man who just made a bomb threat on an Atlanta-to-LAX flight. The rapper was on his way to LA for a performance on Carson Daly. The LA Times reports:
"The unidentified man was aboard Delta Airlines Flight 110, which was approaching Los Angeles, when he got up and stated he had a bomb, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.
"There was an altercation with multiple passengers, who ultimately subdued the man with plastic ties. At one point he tried to exit through one of the aircraft doors after the flight landed at LAX."

UK hip hop documentary 1987
OK lets take it back to 1987. Here's a documentary which i ve never seen before about the UK Hip Hop scene in 1987. Featuring Derek B, Faze 1, Overlord X amongst others. It's both interesting and funny to see how UK Mc's used to get down....I'm glad the trend of American accents disappeared. If your wondering who the dodgy guy in the hat and long hair is thats "Dangerous" Dave Pearce. He used to do a Hip Hop show on Nite fM, which was on Radio London which then turned to GLR and now is called BBC Radio London. He then went on to KISS FM and then over night started playing weird house music.
Overlord X was dope tho. Representing Hackney, his sickest tune was "14 Days in May", which was about the real life wrongful execution of American Edward Earl Johnston. Listen below....

Lupe Fiasco abandons rap and launches post-punk band?
Lupe Fiasco is one of the nicest people in Hip Hop you could meet. Inteligent, talented, and makes great music. I respect any artist who wants to experiment and do there own thing musically, as thats what art is all about. Aparently Lupes now fronting a punk Rock group and is singing IN A BRITISH ACCENT.????????? WTF?????
PLEASE TELL EM THIS IS SOME KIND OF JOKE
LISTEN HERE
Fiasco, who hinted on several occasions in 2008 that he would soon retire, is still working on what he says will be his final album as a rapper, 'LupE.N.D'.
It is now being rumoured that after 'LupE.N.D''s release, Fiasco will continue making music with Japanese Cartoons, under the name Percival Fats.
Three songs, including a cover of The Prodigy's forthcoming album title track 'Invaders Must Die', have been posted on the band's MySpace site. The Prodigy cover and original track 'Heirplanes' feature vocals that sound eerily similar to Lupe Fiasco's, although they are sung in a forced English accent.
However, blogs on the star's MySpace sitedeny that Fiasco is part of the band.
One, posted on January 4 says: "Percival Fats (born Percival Hindenburg-Fats) is NOT Lupe Fiasco (born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco). Although he is a dear friend."
The blog continues: "Lupe does finance the band but is not, I repeat, not, the singer in Japanese Cartoon. He is, however, the producer and we value his participation very much."
DJ MK- PETE ROCK MIX - DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So last night i did a sick best of Pete Rock mix on KISS100. The mix came out really dope so download and enjoy. I only had 17 minutes, so i tried to squeeze as much music in as possible. Over the last 20 years Pete Rock has been one of the best and consistent producers in Hip hop, working with everyone from 50 cent to Run Dmc, to Jim Jones.
