R.I.P. DJ AM
Taken from AllHipHop:
DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment today (August 28). The popular disc jockey was discovered about 5:20 PM. Goldstein's friends reportedly became concerned when none of them had heard from him in several days. One went to check on him, but didn't get him after going straight to the apartment room. The police broke into the apartment after the unnamed friend called them. They found him unresponsive and determined that he was dead. The last thing he said via his Twitter account was, "New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems." Almost a year ago in September 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Both men were badly burned and were the only ones that made it out alive. Reports say that there were drug materials in the home and that it may have played a factor in his death. He was 36 years old.

MK & USAIN BOLT
So, last Saturday, myself and Roots Manuva, headed over to the beautiful City of Berlin. We were performing for a Puma party, to be held in the honor of the entire Jamaican Athletic team. Further more, the worlds fastest man, Usain Bolt, was gonna join us on stage. When i heard this i was like "yeah right".
So we're on stage, the crowd are going crazy, the vibe is right. Still no sign of Mr Bolt. Then someone screams in my ear, "He's coming now, he's here". I had Witness cued up, and started drumming the first bit of drums, into a ragga beat, whilst Roots Manuva, and Ricky Ranking did a sick Freestyle all about Bolt. Amazing energy. Then Bolt stepped on stage...
To be honest, i knew that he was the fastest man in the world, and beat the world record, but wasn't ready for how crazy things were gonna get.
People lost their minds....Have a look at the footage below.
So the show ends, and its all good. I shut my computer down, then I'm informed that Bolt is gonna come back on, so i have to DJ. Not a problem. The only thing was, i had to re start my computer, which as you all know can take some time. Here's me waiting.......check out the expression on my face..
So my trusted Mac, turned on and i killed it on the decks, everything was going kool, crowd were loving it. Bolt came back on stage, presented some award, then came up to me and said that he wanted to DJ. Kool, not a problem. I biged him up about smashing the world record and cracked jokes with him about moonlighting on the side as a dj. When he told me he has Serato, i could' nt believe it. I expected him to be using CD'S, but no, he was a pro and was using Serato!!
Then we waited for Usain Bolts computer to turn on...... and waited..... and waited....It was strange, as there must have been 20 different TV cameras pointed at us. Bolt said he used to have just a mattress and his decks in his room, that was it. Think things gonna change now for him!!
He eventually got his lappy working and spun for about an hour. The party was crazy. Watching the entire Jamaican Athletic team daggering was a sight to see, all you heard was hardcore Bashment. Here's some more photos.

DJ MK VOL 10 - BOOTLEGGED IN JAPAN - 1996
Right, let's take it back to the summer of 1996. I called this tape "Bootlegged in Japan" simply because I found out that my mixtapes were being bootlegged on a big scale in Japan. I really realised this when I was working in Handspun records (went on to be Deal Real) one afternoon and a group of 10 Japanese tourists came in. They looked at me really strangely, and then they all started to take off their baseball caps for me to sign...Luckily my homeboy DJ GO was in the shop and he was able to translate. He told me that they all bought my last 3 mixtapes and they wanted my autographs....
USELESS FACTS ABOUT THIS MIXTAPE:
* 1ST DJMK MIXTAPE TO HAVE SHOUTS
* LAST DJMK MIXTAPE TO BE RECORDED LIVE AND NOT WITH A 4-TRACK
* MY 1ST MIXTAPE THAT WAS SOLD IN THE STATES
* FIRST DJMK MIXTAPE TO HAVE A MAJOR LABEL ARTIST FREESTYLING ON IT (MAD SKILLZ)
* THE MAD SKILLZ FREESTYLE SESSION LASTED FOR AN HOUR
* THIS MIXTAPE WAS ALSO BOOTLEGGED IN JAPAN
*LAST DJMK MIXTAPE NOT TO BE PRESSED UP ON ACTUAL CLEAR TAPES
* WHEN THIS MIXTAPE CAME OUT, I DIDNT LIKE IT.

B.o.B - Should Have Been the First Album (Mixtape)
Taken from ESKAY
Ha! I love it. Shake threw together this mix of No DJ Bobby Ray joints as sort of middle finger to the suits at Atlantic. Word on these e-streets is that they’re trying to force the homie B.o.B. into a 360 deal against his will. While I’m not categorically against 360, or multiple rights deals, I feel like they should be presented as an option to an emerging artist, not as the only option. And they certainly shouldn’t be used as a blackmail tool. I doubt they’d try to pull that shit with a TI or a Jay-Z. Sure, B.o.B. still has some showing and proving to do, but is a fair deal too much to ask? Just put out that man’s album and let the chips fall where they may.

SHYNE SET FOR RELEASE
Looks like Shyne will be home from jail October 6. Former Bad Boy artist Jamal 'Shyne' Barrow has been locked up for 10 years after being convicted of first-degree assault, gun possession, and reckless endangerment after a night club shoot-out on December 27, 1999. On the night of the shooting Shyne, Puffy and Jennifer Lopez where out clubbing in New York when Puff got into a confrontation with another group inside the club. After someone threw money in Puff's face, shots were fired. Shyne was apprehended immediately, but Puff, Jennifer, their bodyguard and driver fled the scene. Puff and 'nem were apprehended a few blocks away where cops found a stolen gun in the car.
Puffy and his bodyguard were later acquitted on gun charges while Jennifer Lopez was not charged with any crime. Rumour has it Jay Z wants to sign him to Roc Nation...We'll see.

CRACK & SHINE - THE FIRST EVER BOOK ABOUT GRAFFITI IN LONDON
Featuring forty of the most exciting and prolific graffiti artists to have lived and painted in London, Crack & Shine is the only London graffiti book ever to be published. Also presenting the work of London-based photographer Will Robson-Scott, Crack & Shine includes a series of over 50 beautifully-composed photographs, created exclusively for the book; giving articulate and vivid insight into the awkward moments of waiting, the apprehension of hiding and the calm and stillness that comes with seeing the world from an altered perspective.”
Out of all of the elements involving Hip Hop, Graffiti writers are definitely the unseen heros...the ones who get over looked and normally dont ever see a penny out of there art. As a ex graff writer, i've been dying to see a book documenting the London Scene, in a proper light. Now with the launch of this book, that book i've dreamed about has finally come out.
What makes this book good, is the lay out, the photos and the commentary that goes with it. It's also good to see a lot of my friends finally getting their props, and their place in the history books. TEACH, ZOMBY, ELK, COS, TOX, GRAND, ETC are all featured. Some amazing photos. Major props to my homeboy Teach, not only for being a sick writer over the last 18 years, but for taking so many sick photos. He was one of the few writers to always have a camera with him, so he was able to document a lot of classic flicks. OUT NOW. GO BUY IT.

Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch Recovering From Cancer Surgery
Good news!
Beastie Boys‘ Adam “MCA” Yauch confirmed he’s making a quick recovery from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his parotid gland — and thanked artists who have paid tribute to him onstage — in an e-mail message to fans dated today. In the personal missive, Yauch reveals his surgery was completed a week and a half ago, and that he spent only one post-op night in the hospital before heading home to recuperate, “have home cooked food and hang out with the family.” Yauch told fans about his cancer directly in a video message on July 20th.
“I haven’t taken any of the pain meds, which supposedly speeds along the healing process, or should I say, taking them slows it down,” he writes, noting that it took several days to get the anesthesia from the operation out of his system. Yauch reveals he’s experiencing stiffness in his neck and jaw, but his condition is improving with each day. Radiation treatments, a “torture,” MCA says, which will involve “blasting you with some kind of beam for a few minutes a day, 5 days a week, for about 7 weeks” begin in several weeks.
But Yauch still has his mind on music, despite his medical setback. He writes that he saw all the All Points West tributes to the Beasties, who had to pull out of the festival at the eleventh hour due to his diagnosis. Shouting out Jay-Z for his cover of “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn” and Coldplay’s Chris Martin’s solo piano take on “Fight for Your Right” with “good shit,” MCA also thanked Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O for wearing a “Get Well MCA” armband and Q-Tip for his good vibes. Check out photos and full reports from all All Points West — where Jay-Z made his first U.S. festival appearance in place of the Beasties — at our APW hub.
“I do think that all of the well wishes have contributed to the fact that my treatment and recovery are going well,” Yauch concludes. “Much love back at all of you!”
As Rock Daily reported, Yauch’s cancer led the Beasties to push back the release of new album Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1, which was originally planned for a September 15th release.

JAY Z BLUE PRINT 3 ALBUM COVER
AND HERES WHY HOV DID IT LIKE DAT!
“These things are like the forgotten pieces in hip-hop,” Hov explained. “It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, making gimmicks — it’s still about making music. Those things are piled in the corner. These are the forgotten things about music. It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, it’s not about making gimmicks, it’s about music. The three stripes that everybody is asking about is made from the original [number] three. The first three they made on the wall was someone carving. If you look at [the number] 3, all they did was connect lines. The whole thing about this album, how I approached it, is that I wanted to make a new classic to start that all over again — to go back to making classic albums like the ones we grew up listening to.”

DJMK - VOL 14 - 1999 CLASSIC
Lets take it back ten years ago to 1999.
If you wanted to hear good new music, you heard it on mixtapes. Props to letthebrainzblog.blogspot.com, who uploaded this yesterday. So this mixtape was recorded in March 1999, and if i say so myself, is pretty dope. Exclusives, freestyles, good music...You know the deal. I remember i recorded this, a week before by first trip to NYC. I wanted to lace Fat Beats with something new, and i did.
